July Newsletter

July was a big month at PMA.  It started on the weekend of the 1st & 2nd at the Caloundra Air Museum with an open cockpit day.  PMA was represented by Jim Willson with assistance from Roy Salmon, John Borrill, Richard Sharwood, Tim Orchard (Coolum) & Damien Ferrito (Coolum). The weekend was an outstanding success with huge numbers of visitors who came to see the full size aircraft also being exposed to the sport of aeromodelling by the display of RC aircraft trainers, warbirds, helicopters and multirotors.  Well done chaps.
Our grant from the Sunshine Coast Council came through and has now been converted into a new mower.  Everyone agrees the grounds maintenance team do a great job under Stu's watchful eye and this is a great addition to their collection of toys.
Given the complexity of its operation, it was deemed necessary to introduce a competency assessment for mower operators.  The assessment involves several hours instruction on the simulator.
Troy maidened his Carbon-Z Prometheus.  It certainly was a big day for Troy and a few other very supportive club members. Thanks to the collected efforts, it all went extremely well.  If you missed it, this is what they got up to:

Later in the month Troy's Freewing stinger 90 maiden did not go quite as well.

He took this:                                                                                  And converted it to this:
It may buff out, but his latest post to the club Facebook page suggests not:

"For sale Freewing Stinger 90.  Slight hanger rash, needs new everything, pick up Mooloolaba dump. LOL"

At least he can still see the funny side of the unforgiving nature of aviation.

Jim also held a night fly event on the last Friday night of the month.  Brian finished off the ramp to the new container, Stu has fabricated the metal ramps for the doors of the container and is working on modifying the roller.

And the AGM is coming up in August.

It's all go!
